Solution #2: Structure What You
Know
Create a Knowledge Framework
A knowledge
framework provides the semantic structure
required to organize, categorize, tag and link information so that people can
find it more easily. The three components of a knowledge framework are:
- taxonomy
of categories for grouping the information
- thesaurus
of terms with their relationships
- metadata
specifications for labeling the information.
A knowledge framework
provides the common semantic structure
and vocabulary required to realize the following features of an effective
enterprise content management system:
- precise,
easy-to-use search capability
- classification
of information assets
- logical
navigation paths through the information
- information
sharing and collaboration across the organization
- ability
to deliver or request personalized information
- definition
of content for staff training and education courses
What We
Do
- Work
with your Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define the concepts and terms
used in your organization's subject domain
- Express
the relationships between the concepts and terms by developing a thesaurus
and/or taxonomy
- Work
with vendors of taxonomy building software to implement a taxonomy relevant
to your organization's domain needs
- Create
a metadata specification for your information.
- Train
staff in how to develop and maintain the knowledge framework
What We Deliver
- A
Knowledge Framework Guide containing the thesaurus and/or taxonomy, the
metadata specifications and all the information required to maintain and
extend the framework
- Collaboration
with vendors to integrate the taxonomy into your content management or
portal software
- Documentation
of the process and resources required to create and maintain the thesaurus
and taxonomy.
- Training
sessions for staff, as required.
